Ethan Theodore Pressman is a student at NYU as a journalism major and plays hockey on the NYU Violets. He is also a graduate of William McKinley High School and a former member of New Directions, which he joined during his senior year. He was introduced in A Night of Neglect as a spy for Jack Harmon to cultivate information on Dave Karofsky. He is played by actor Matt Doyle.

Ethan Pressman was the youngest child born to Dr. Victor Pressman and his second wife, Kate, and was considered the surprise baby of his family as his mother believed she was beginning menopause. He has two older half-siblings from his father's first marriage and five full siblings from his parents' marriage with five years separating him from his youngest older sibling, Phillip.
He was, by his own admission, spoiled rotten by his family and was close to all of them. He realized he was gay while he was in middle school and came out to his mother and brother, Phillip, before telling the entire family. Since then, he has had a strained relationship with his brother, Austin, and sister, Cassie, but grew closer to his mother and Phillip.
His brother, Rex, introduced the naturally bookish Ethan to hockey and he soon excelled at it. He joined the McKinley Hockey team his freshman year and became the star of the team, behind Rick "the Stick" Cooper. While proud of his sexuality, he remained quiet about it to avoid the harassment that many kids at McKinley had to endure.
During this time, Jack discovered Ethan's secret and tricked him into kissing him, getting a picture of Ethan playing the aggressor in the kiss and used it as a means to blackmail him.

- When upset, Jack has a tendency to refer to Ethan by his full name but gives him feminine middle names such as Vivian or Lucille, to which Ethan always replies, "That's not my middle name."
